Xbox Vs. Playstation

So the console war is starting to heat up getting close to the end of summer and the begining of the fall rush for games to hit the market in time for christmas.

I have been a very loyal fan of the Sony camp for quite a while now (since the Playstation launch in 95) and I love my PSP... but something doesn't smell right in the Sony buildings now. The PS3 is going to cost about a cool thousand bucks for you to get the system an extra controller and a couple games, and thats just the start of my problems with it. Now they are saying it is NOT a game console anymore its a "Computer". Uh... what?!?!? what about the Sony Viao? That is a computer, the Playstation is a game console no matter what you think. Unless you start to market the other features of the system first over the games it will always be a game console. There have been rumors and full blown confirmations of the fact that a lot of major developers don't like the fact that it is going to cost the consumer an arm and a leg to play games this christmas, some have even stopped development of games for the system all together.

The PS3 was announced at last years E3 and everyone went nuts, but since then i have yet to hear anything truly positive at all come from basicly anyone about the system. Almost every major source of info on the PS3 or the people that review the info and tech that comes out, have all basicly said Microsoft and Nintendo will bury the PS3 this season. That is just sad.

I can understand the fact that they want to make a high end machine that will make the games head and shoulders above the rest, but in doing so you have pretty much alienated a large majority of the gaming population. It's like scrapping together what you think is enough money to buy a car and realizing that the only things for sale are Ferrari and Lambo's.

I for one am very happy with the Xbox 360. The games are a lot of fun (maybe too much) and the price is still affordable. Not to mention the fact that i can get a new game on the Xbox Live Marketplace for roughly about $6 - $10 every week, and they are quality fun games from the past arcades. And I will be much happier once "Dead Rising" and "Gears of War"... and oh yeah Halo 3 come out and I lose myself for about eleventy billion hours of gameplay again.

Point being, I consider myself (and so do most of my friends and family) a hardcore gamer, and if I am not even thinking about getting a PS3, but am seriously thinking about getting a Nintendo Wii, even though i have a 360, then i think it is safe to say that the PS3 and Sony have an up hill battle ahead of them.
